19.7.19 Homework letter
Our Nursery allocated time in the library is on a Thursday. Please share the book with your child and write a comment in their reading diary. Your comment could highlight how engaged your child was in the story, if they can talk about what was happening on each page, or if they can tell you about the story.
Your child is issued with a blue homework folder, this will be sent home on a Friday and completed homework should be returned on a Monday. Please keep the homework letter in the blue folder and write a comment in the box on the back to let us know how your child found the homework.
Each week on the homework letter will have a brief overview of what will be covered the following week, as well as a synopsis of what was covered. This will help you support your child in their learning, as we value the home/school partnership.
If you want to let us know about anything you think is special or important at home, please complete a ‘Discovered at Home’ sheet, so we can add them to your child’s learning journey.
Our class has PE on a Thursday Morning with the Sports Coach. The children need a full PE kit and will change into shorts, t-shirt and pumps.
Summer Term 2
This half term our topic is ‘Ocean Waves.’ We will be learning facts about the different creatures that live in the sea and oceans. We will be comparing different mammals and fish. We will use exciting stories to help explore ‘mythical mermaids’ and pirates.
We will be listening to the sounds of the waves and using our creativity and imagination to make our own musical instruments using natural materials. There will be lots of opportunities in our areas for the children to make their own boats, sea creatures, mermaids, treasure islands and aquariums. The children will be testing which materials float and sink to enable them to select the best resources to make their boat.
In our PSED work, we will be discussing how to stay safe by the sea. We will be reading ‘Sharing a Shell’ and ‘The Singing Mermaid.’ We will be discussing the behaviour of different characters and working together to problem solve and find solutions to help the characters in the stories.
In Literacy we will be reading the stories ‘Billy’s Bucket’ and ‘Commotion in the Ocean’. We will be listening and joining in with rhyming words as well as learning new vocabulary to describe and write facts about what we see. We will be sharing our own experiences of our own holidays.
In Math’s we will be using our skills to sort, count, order and problem solve. We will continue to work on 1 more and 1 less than a given number. We will be using 2D and 3D shapes to make boats and creative pieces of art as well as ordering objects by weight, length, size and capacity.
In addition to our weekly PE sessions, we have planned a week of fun active sports, which will include Sports Day.
We will be challenging the children to meet their new targets and preparing them for their transition to our Reception class or their new school.. We will have our final Dojo treat day for children who have been awarded 100 Dojo Merits. We will finish our topic ‘Ocean Waves’ with a class party. This is going to be an exciting half term!
